Demolition and Construction: New and better buildings at Snowshoe.

Introduction

Most seasoned Snowshoe visitors will tell you all about the great things the resort offers, delectable restaurants, pristine skiing, unique summer fun; all the great experiences that keep us loving the mountain. Whether you’re a regular downhill biker, a returning skier or snowboarder, an involved owner, or even a Snowshoe local, many will agree that the resort seems unchanging, and that’s ok if you love the resort as is. Yet few realize the reality that Snowshoe evolves behind the scenes, and it evolves most in the summer season. In this blog, we’ll talk about the new, long due constructions, and the lengthy but necessary demolitions as well. We’ll go over the additions and subtractions to the resort; what’s new, what’s going away, and what you should know about Snowshoe’s summer change.

Shaver’s Center

Perhaps the most obvious of the changes on the mountain is the new and improved Shaver’s Center. Those who frequented the Skidder Slope only a few years ago will remember a building of plain appearance that had a double floored cafeteria within it. This was the old Shaver’s center which offered rest from the slopes and affordable meals on the mountain similar to the food sold at sports concessions. The old Shaver’s Center was demolished and a new one was built, and at the time of this writing is almost done (set to open this July 2026!). The goal of the new Shaver’s Center is to be a more modern and expanded version of its predecessor; it will feature outdoor fireplaces, seating for guests, house the ski/bike school operations, house adventure tour operations, and what most guests will remember it for, the dining! Although the Shaver’s Center has continuously had delayed progress due to construction issues, progress has continued to be made and we hope it will open up to all Snowshoe Guests soon!

Mountain Lodge

Within Mountain Lodge extensive interior renovations are occurring, and the building will be greatly improved. Yet this isn’t the first time the building has seen improvements, just recently there was an exterior renovation to bring new siding and decks, and just the past season the interior was completely remodeled. However that’s not all, in addition to the general store that replaced the old arcade, there are plans to build a sauna room. Truly exciting things seem ahead for Mountain Lodge homeowners and Guests, and we will keep you updated on the state of the lodge, perhaps it will serve as a standard for other buildings on the mountain to work towards!
